On Wednesday, January 18th, the Sykesville Rotary held an Open House at Cobblestone Tavern and Grille in Eldersburg. In attendance were members of the Sykesville Chapter of the Club, members of Rotary International, local business owners and members of the community. Designed to educate interested parties on the benefits of Club membership, Club members were able to share the many ways the Club is helping within the Carroll County community.
An example of how the Club is helping the County is through fundraisers that benefit area non-profits. In December, the Club held a Vera Bradley BINGO event where CHANGE, Inc. was named as a recipient charity. Thiswas the first time the Club had held a BINGO of this sort at this time of year. The Club typically holds a basket BINGO in March.
At the open house the recipient non-profits were invited to speak of their organizations and were each presented with a donation check. CHANGE, Inc. received a $1000 check. During her thank you speech, Teresa Perrera, Director of Development for CHANGE, Inc thanked the Rotary and summed it up by saying, "CHANGE, Inc. helps people who more often than not can not express their gratitude in words. So I speak for them when I say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, for being a community partner that understands the needs of this very fragile population and does what they can to help."
