On February 23, 2013, West Carroll Cheer Rebels Xtreme Rec 12U winter competition cheer squad from New Windsor, Maryland took the Ocean City Convention Center by surprise to win the Level 2 Youth Rec National Reach the Beach Cheer Championship beating out teams from around the United States.  In winning the championship they also won jackets, surfboard trophy, and 1st place bid to US Finals in Virginia Beach.  The Rebels squad also won the Maryland State Championship on February 2, 2013 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Parents and other family members of the cheerleaders bet them at pizza party the night before that if they won first place that they would jump into the ocean...so late afternoon Saturday they kept their end of the bargain and jumped into the ocean together.  Other hotel guests watched the family members of the 13 cheerleaders plunge into the ocean from their balconies.
