Animals in Need of a Good Home

Here is a short list of some of the pets available for adoption at the Carroll County Humane Society.

Nutmeg is a four-year-old male Pomeranian.  He is described as a ‘goofy bundle of energy’ that may be too much for small children.

Ninja is a three-year-old female Sharpei mix.  While she needs a little help with house breaking she is smart, gentle, crate trained and great with kids.

Cody is a three-year-old neutered male Collie mix.  He is well trained to sit, stay, give his paw and walks nicely on a leash.

Jack is a six-month-old neutered male kitten.  He and his six-month-old sister Jill are both very cute and hoping to find great new homes.  Jack’s adoption fee is $30.00.

Brutus is a ten-week-old male kitten.  He is described as one ‘beefy’ dude with a nice dreamy stare.

Oden is a one-year-old neutered male.  He is very laid back but livens up when given much loved attention.  Adoption fee $30.00.

Aces and Spades are Parakeets that have a cage and love to sing to their hearts content.  Adoption fee: $30.00 with cage.

Great to see Patch trying to find good homes for these pets. For those of you who are interested in adopting larger birds such as cockatoos, parrots and McCaws - or in putting a larger bird up for adoption, I suggest you contact the parrot rescue organization Phoenix Landing. From experience I can state that they have great birds needing good homes in our area and that these discarded, sometimes abused birds usually make far better pets than those sold in stores. Contact Phoenix Landing at:
http://www.phoenixlanding.org/. They have events scheduled nearby that will let you see the birds looking for homes and will train you how to be a good large buird owner.

There's an excellent vet in CC that cares for not only 'typical' animals, but also birds and reptiles...folks come from miles away! Dr. Ryan at Feathers, Scales & Tails is an awesome vet practice! The last time I was there, a woman had brought in 3 baby bats (don't know how she even found them, they were so teeny weeny). My son was with me and it was a once in a lifetime opportunity...they were so tiny, they didn't come close to covering the palm of the vet's hand. She said they would survive and be cared for by her.

Feathers, Scales and Tails saved an injured Great Blue Heron that my sons rescued. They didn't charge us a penny and even called to let us know when he was released into the wild. GREAT COMMUNITY members!

I would love to volunteer at our Humane Society! Just love animals! But I know I can't because I'd want to take them ALL home. Of course then I'd have my own Humane Society, lol! And when they had to be euthanized, I'd be way too heartbroken. All but one of my pets has come from the Humane Society :)

Great info! And Jane, I have talked to people in the waiting room at Feather's Tails & Scales who drove over and hour and a half to bring their reptile to Dr. Ryan, so you're definitely right about people coming from miles away!...(Also, those bats sound so cute! Did you guys get to see the baby squirrel they had in there for a bit?)

No, we didn't :( Seeing those baby bats was a once in a lifetime experience...so cool! I've taken injured wildlife there before...one was a turtle whose shell had been injured due to being hit by a car, poor thing. Whenever I have old towels, blankets and the like, I always drop them off at FST...they're always grateful!
