Bank Robbery Suspects Apprehended

A man and woman were charged in the robbery of the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Westminster.

Westminster police apprehended two suspects in the robbery of the Farmers and Merchants Bank at 275 Clifton Blvd. Friday just before noon.

According to police, as officers were responding to the reports of a bank robbery, they were advised that a suspect had fled the bank in a light blue Ford Explorer.

Police tried to stop the vehicle but the suspect refused to pull over. The vehicle was pursued from Westminster and west on Route 31 into Frederick County where the driver ultimately pulled over near Toll Road.

The operator of the vehicle, Gregory Steven Horn, 38, of Glen Burnie, and a female passenger, Kelly Nicole Smith, 23, of Middle River, were taken into custody. 

Police report that a white female entered the bank just prior to the robbery and inquired about employment.  Shortly after she left the bank, a white male wearing a ski mask entered the bank and announced the robbery while showing a pistol. The suspect fled the bank after receiving an undisclosed amount of money.  He was seen getting into the light blue Explorer and leaving the parking lot toward Route 140.  No one was injured during the robbery or the resulting pursuit.

The suspects in the bank robbery are currently being held at the Westminster Police Department pending the issuance of formal charging documents.  Once the charging documents are completed, the suspects will be transported to the Carroll County Central Booking Center for booking and presentation to the District Court Commissioner. 

Both Horn and Smith are being charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, theft and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony.
