Bike Bargains Found at Annual 'Stop, Swap and Save' Event
A an event at the Agricultural Center will have vendors selling a variety of bike-related merchandise.
Both serious cyclists and those who enjoy casually pedaling around their neighborhoods have a good reason to set their alarms early on Friday.
At 9 a.m. on Sunday morning, the Carroll County Agricultural Center will open their doors for the 14th annual "Stop, Swap and Save." Vendors from all over Maryland will be at this indoor event to sell bike merchandise and answer questions.
Robin Culver, the event's promoter, states that over 300 vendors flock to the event, including “bike shops, sales reps, individuals, non-profits promoting a benefit bike ride, bike companies, etc.”
Though the event runs until 2 p.m., the first 500 who arrive will receive a free goodie bag. There will also be breakfast and lunch food for sale throughout the day.
Shoppers can even make some cash of their own by bringing unwanted bikes to the swap and displaying them for $5 per bike in the “Bikes for Sale” area. They are then free to shop, and if a prospective buyer is interested in the bike, the seller is called over the PA system to negotiate a price. Those interested in selling bikes should remember to bring locks for anything they wish to display.
Beyond providing a medium for browsing, buying, and socialization among bikers, the Stop, Swap and Save is also proud to hold their third annual blood drive though the American Red Cross.
Admission for the event is $5, and parking is free.
