Calgon, Take Me Away...To Giulianova Groceria

A perfect idea for MNO - eat delicious food, hang out with friends, and add a recipe to your repertoire while you're at it.

Bill Schroeder took over Giulianova's, 11 East Main St., in 2003, with a promise to continue offering the community the finest quality Italian goods. In addition to offering an Italian grocery and prepared foods such as subs, Bill also teaches cooking classes. But these aren't your traditional cooking classes.

The classes can have up to 25 people in them, but Bill guarantees that everyone will get more than enough to eat. It is as much a social event as it is a learning event.

The food is prepared by Bill and he will offer instruction as he is preparing the dishes. Each guest also leaves with a recipe card.

But pssst, just between you and me, the recipes from his past classes are available on his website, just in case you're struggling to come up with a yummy meal for tonight.

Bill said that this not a culinary school, the experience is to learn how to put a dish together using genuine Italian ingredients, and to have fun while doing it. It is not, he explained, to become a culinary expert.

So grab your fellow moms (or, you could always make it a date night, maybe the hubby will even learn how to cook the dish) and head to Giulianova's for some yummy food and more importantly, some "me time".

The classes last several hours and in addition to the featured entrees, there are also appetizers and desserts provided. The classes cost between $25-$35 per person depending on the food being prepared.

Registration is required for classes and they do fill up so if you're interested in a class (typically held the 3rd Wednesday of the month), sign up soon! The Feb. 23 class is full so Bill has added an additional class on Thursday, Feb. 24. Call 410-876-7425 for more information.
