Teacher Appreciation Week is a week-long celebration in the United States observed the first full week in May. Patch wants to honor our local teachers and we can only do that if the community shares its stories about the great teachers we have and why we appreciate them.

Take some time this week and ask your children to talk about teachers they really appreciate. Then share with us on Patch.

It's easy, just tell us the name of the teacher, the school, the nominating student's name and details about why the teacher deserves to be honored. The "I Appreciate My Teacher Because..." comments must be entered by 9 a.m. Friday, May 11. (See the example in the comments below)

On Friday, May 11 at 3 p.m. Patch will announce the winner of the contest.

The winning teacher and the student who wrote about that teacher will each receive a half dozen gourmet cupcakes from Starry Night Bakery. But the real reward for the teachers will be seeing their dedication and work acknowledged right here on Patch.

So get to it! It's time to show off your teachers. Write about as many teachers as you want.

--EXAMPLE NOMINATION--
I appreciate my teacher, Ms. Someone at Some Elementary School because she always makes boring stuff seem fun. When we were learning about Hieroglyphics, Ms. Someone made us sit under our desks to feel like we were inside a cave and we drew our own hieroglyphics to tell our own story. She also always writes funny faces on my papers when I do a good job. --Submitted by Student McStudent

She helped me learn to read and write in fun and exciting ways. She taught me how to find words hidden in other words! I am so lucky to be in her class!--submitted by Clare Tiffany

Mrs. Frushour at Westminster elementary is the best science teacher! She has a classroom full of animals that allow us to learn about living things in a hands-on, exciting way! She assigns creative projects, like designing your own roller coaster! We do fun activities to learn all about our topics! I love being in her class! --submitted by Aidan Tiffany

I appreciate my teacher, Mrs. Dulch, from Shiloh Middle School. She makes English class fun which makes it easier for me to learn in her class. She assigned us a photo story project and I did mine on Lebron James. I even got to create my own action figure of him. Connor Richardson
