Dynamic Dads Contest Winners Announced
The Marriage Resources Center's Dynamic Dads Contest nominees and winners were recognized Tuesday evening.
Four Carroll County students and their fathers were recognized as winners in the Marriage Resource Center's annual Dynamite Dad Contest.
Students were asked to explain in 100 words or less why their dads are awesome. The winners and their dads were recognized at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 12 at TownMall Westminster.
This year’s winners are: Virginia Zellers, sixth grade at East Middle School, and her father, Joe; Adrianne Holocker, seventh grade, Sykesville Middle School, and her father, Eric; Sara Joy Myers, first grade, homeschooled, Union Bridge, and her father, John; Chamberlyn Schafer, fifth grade, Carroll Lutheran School, Westminster, and her father, Pastor David Schafer.
At the awards ceremony, students read their entries to their dads who followed with some rich comments of their own. The fathers received special gifts that included a father/child portrait from Fine Portraiture by Michele, a collection of board games, and a copy of the movie Courageous.
Marriage Resource Center Executive Director Amy Gilford said that the purpose of this annual contest is to raise awareness of the importance of father involvement in the lives of their children.
Following are the winning entries.
First grader Sarah Joy Myers is homeschooled in Union Bridge. She wrote about her father John Mike Myers.
My dad is awesome because he plays Go Fish with me. He lives on a farm and works very hard. He loves animals, especially cows. He loves God and takes good care of his family. He's a good father to us and a good husband to mommy. He is so special and we love him so much! I love my daddy!
Fifth grader Chamberlyn Schafer of Carroll Lutheran School wrote about her father Pastor David Schafer.
My Wonderful Dad
My dad is the best
He has to put up with me
I am a pest
And he helps me when I get stung by a bee
We always have fun
He is as brighter than the sun
My dad is the bomb
And he is better than my mom
As I go through the tween years
My dad's eyes fill with tears
He's the family pack mule
and he rules
He is my dad
And he is not bad
He likes to eat shrimp
And he is not a wimp
My dad is cool
He likes the pool
He is slim
And no dad is better than him
Sixth grader Virginia Zellers of East Middle School wrote about her father Joe Zellers.
My dad is awesome because he works really hard all day with one full-time job and 2 part-time jobs. He still has time for me and my other four siblings. Three of which are foster kids. He renovates our house in his free time and still has time to take us fishing. I know my dad loves me and I love him and I appreciate all he has done for me. He is the best dad in the world. He always has time for me. Happy father's day, dad!
My dad is awesome,
He is the coolest dad ever,
Happy Father's Day.
Seventh grader Adrianne Holocker of Sykesville Middle School wrote about her father Eric Holocker.
My dad is awesome because he always puts his family first. He has three kids and always spends quality time with each. He coached all of our soccer teams, even all at once! Every year for 12 years he has taken me and/or my sister to the Westminster Daddy Daughter Date Night. He works night shifts as a police officer. He is very involved with my brother's boy scouts too. I love him so much! I call him Crush, and he calls me Squirt, from Nemo. Even if he doesn't win, he will always be the best in my eyes.
