English Language Ordinance Hearing Scheduled for Tuesday Evening
The board of Carroll County commissioners will hear community comments on the proposed English Language Ordinance.
The board of Carroll County Commissioners voted in September to hold a public hearing for a proposed ordinance that would make English the official language of Carroll County government.
The comissioners voted 4-0 to move the ordinance to a public hearing. Commissioner Robin Bartlett-Frazier was not present at the meeting.
Commissioner Haven Shoemaker presented the proposed ordinance to commissioners, saying that "this isn't a radical motion."
According to Shoemaker, 31 states and two Maryland counties (Frederick and Queen Anne's) have passed similar legislation.
The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the County Office Building at 7 p.m.
Copies of the proposed resolution are available on the County’s website (ccgovernment.carr.org).

It will change absolutely NOTHING and its a waste of time. I am sure the Commissioners have better things to do with their time.. If they can't find something more productive to do, we should be looking for new candidates in the future. What a WASTE!

If only there were a way to extrapolate out the costs of this pointless proposed ordnance...I hope that people will turn out to express their displeasure with the Board...yes, there will be some people who think it is a good idea...but this proposed ordnance does absolutely nothing...NOTHING...except make a political statement that is going to be very distasteful to a lot of people...

I would liken this proposal to Shoemakers push for bigger schools in Hampstead...

What's next Christianity as the "official religion"? Or how about a proposal to fund the schools as long as they include creationism as science alongside evolution? Maybe the Ravens as the "official football team"? I've got it...they can come up with an anti-UN proclamation to show solidarity with the US Senate's vote against a treaty protecting the disabled from discrimination. Tea Party idiots...all of them!

Hmmmmm, do I smell hypocrisy???? And remember...this BOC already dropped ICLEI (hopefully spelled correctly...)
