Update: Police Say Man's Gunshot Wounds May Be Self-Inflicted

A sheriff's representative said two gunshot wounds on a man living in the 300 block of Gorsuch Road may have been self-inflicted.

Gunshot wounds to a man who told police he was shot in a confrontation with another man may have been self-inflicted, sheriff's officials said Friday. Lock downs at schools were called off in the afternoon.

According to Maj. Phil Kasten of the Carroll County Sheriff's Department, a little after 11 a.m., the sheriff's office was dispatched for shots fired in the 300 block of Gorsuch Road. A man had been shot twice, in the right hand and leg, with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries and he was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

The gunshot victim told police he was confronted by and subsequently shot by a 30-40 year-old white man who fled the scene on foot after the shooting. Schools in the area were put on lock down as a precaution while the Maryland State Police and sheriff's office conducted a ground and aerial search via helicopter for the suspect.

According to Kasten, search operations were concluded at approximately 1:30 p.m. and the lockdown of five local schools lifted after investigators received information from a source close to the victim indicating the injury may have been self-inflicted.

Residents were alerted that search operations had concluded.

Detectives secured the residence and were collecting evidence.

This incident was still being investigated as a shooting.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Section at 410-386-2900
