Three upcoming events at McDaniel College will focus on politics and the presidential elections. 

The college is hosting an art exhibit, a book talk and dialogue with professors and prominent local politicians. The events are open to the public.

Book Talk

Herb Smith, Political Science professor and director of government relations at McDaniel, will discuss the upcoming election and his book, “Maryland Politics and Government: Democratic Dominance,” with co-author John Willis, a University of Baltimore professor, at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 in McDaniel Lounge, according to the McDaniel website.

“I firmly believe we should have political events all the time,” Smith said in a McDaniel article. “To repeat the mantra of the League of Women Voters, ‘Democracy is not a spectator sport!’ And an informed electorate makes better choices than an ignorant one.”

Art Exhibit

“Politics as Usual” by John James Anderson will open Sept. 25 in the Rice Gallery in Peterson Hall, with a reception from 7-9 p.m. and artist talk at 7:30 p.m. The exhibition runs through Oct. 19.

His exhibit “sifts through presidential archetypes typical in Hollywood films while simultaneously probing the conflicting ideologies within either side of the contemporary two-party diarchy,” said Anderson in a McDaniel release.

Dialogue on Presidential Election

On Oct. 2 McDaniel will host a Dialogue on Presidential Election at 7 p.m. in McDaniel Lounge, with Maryland Delegate Samuel “Sandy” Rosenberg (Democrat) of Baltimore and Harford County Executive David R. Craig (Republican) weighing in. The event will be moderated by McDaniel president Roger Casey.
