Video: Dueling Events Raise the Roof at Westminster High School
Westminster High School hosted two events Tuesday night--a boys playoff basketball game and a side-by-side concert.
There was no lack of excitement at Westminster High School Tuesday night as both the gym and the auditorium were packed with folks looking for a really good show. Regardless of which audience you were sitting in, you got your good show.
In the gym, the Westminster High School boys basketball team hosted Montgomery County's Blake High School for the 4A North Region Quarterfinals. Westminster held their own against a strong team that went 18-6 this season.
Westminster won the game 65-57. The Owls are scheduled to face off against Sherwood High School (17-7) at Westminster on Thursday for the 4A North Semifinals.
Across the lobby in the auditorium, the attire was different and the audience was much quieter, but the excitement could be felt all the same.
The Westminster Region Side-by-Side Concert brought together students from Westminster High School, West Middle School and four elementary schools (Friendship Valley, Mechanicsville, Sandymount and Westminster). The musicians from different schools did not practice together prior to the day of the concert.
According to the concert program, the "side by side" experience is meant to give fifth and eighth grade students an idea of what they have to look foward to as they prepare to move on to instrumental music at their next school.

I love how this shows the power both music and sports have to bring people together!

Over 300 student musicians participated in the concert. Kids across all ages could be seen helping and supporting one another. One director commented that music is a team sport, too. And, you could really feel the power of sound - even from my family's seats in the balcony! Hope we can get to Thursday's game to support Owl basketball as well. Go Teams!!!
