Overlea Student To O'Malley: Are You Going For A Federal Job?

Before a press conference at Overlea High School a student caught the Governor off guard with a question about his political future.

Kids, even high school age teens, say the darndest things.

Before a press conference where Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley announced the proposed $336M state fiscal year 2014 school construction budget he was surprised by an off-hand question from a student in the audience.

"Are you going to go for a federal job?" Overlea High School sophomore Dominque Carter asked.

The question elicited laughter from the crowd of students, teachers and elected officials.

Carter was asked what position he thought O'Malley should go for.

"President," he replied.

The governor recently finished a term as chairman of the Democratic Governors Association and last year formed a federal political action committee called the "Oh Say Can You See PAC" that is seen as a precursor to a run for federal office in 2016. O'Malley's is barred from running for a third term as governor in 2014.

O'Malley for his part dodged the question saying only that his goal was to do the best possible job in the his position as Maryland's governor.

Carter said that he asked the question because he thought O'Malley would be good at the job.

"I think he has a good role here as governor and he could do a good job as president," Carter said. "I think he had a lot to do with advancement in the state and he could take that to the country."

Suzanne McDermott, who teaches Carter's AP Government class at Overlea High, said that she brought her students to the conference so they could see government in action.

"This was a great opportunity for students to interact with people in government," she said, adding that often students see government officials as "untouchable".

"This really brings them down to earth," she said.

I see those students have been well indoctrinated.
Just imagine O'Malley as President: He'll be on all the national networks with his condescending deadpan delivery, hypnotizing us all into submission while he patiently explains what is best for us. Before that, he'll get on all the late night shows with his guitar and little band to show us all what a cool guy he is. He'll make Katie Attorney General to make sure his will is enforced while Mike Miller is Chief of Staff. Meanwhile, Tony Brown will be sitting in the MD governors office waiting for Marty to call him to tell him what to do ...... It's like the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come!

A scary thought. He's running businesses out the state; highest rate in the U.S. Of course the student doesn't know that, nor weill the Sunpaper report it.

Please run for a federal job, Marty. You'll lose, Maryland will be rid of you and life will be good.

How does his wife stay on the bench in Baltimore City? Judges have to live in the jurisdiction where they sit. Last time I looked Annapolis isn't in Baltimore City and who foots the tab for her to get driven to work every day? Must be nice to be the self appointed king and queen of the People's Republic of Maryland.

I'd bet she expenses the commute like many grown-ups do?

Don't you think that the taxpayers subsidizing so many people's use of private automobiles for business purposes is a big ripoff?

Do you really think the laws apply to the O'Malleys? They don't break the laws, they have "teachable moments" (like drunk underaged daughter passed out at Inner Harbor)

OweMalley for President and we'd all be in the poor house. If he ran the country like he runs the state we would be paying more taxes than any nation on Earth.

MC, learn something about taxes before you make a fool of yourself. You can expense anything you want, it is only a problem if you are caught. Which is highly unlikely unless you get greedy.

Will he make his Inaugural Address in his Boston-Kennedy accent or his aw-shucks southern twang?

I hope he reconsiders it. I believe his wife is smarter than he is. He has used money is all sorts of ways to buy his way to governship and now probably expects the same to be president. I wish we could stop the steady stream of the incompetent. Is there a real man or woman out there that we can who does a good job and deserves our respect?

In short, no. He'll have to do for a while.
