Police Arrest Man for Pointing Shotgun at Girlfriend

State police responded to a 2 a.m. 911 call.

Maryland State Police report that they are investigating a domestic violence case between a boyfriend and girlfriend that occurred during the early morning hours of Aug. 2 in Sykesville.

According to the news release, around 2:42 a.m., troopers from the Westminster Barrack responded to the 4300 block of Old Washington Road after Maurita Whittaker called 911. State police dispatchers overheard Whittaker pleading with someone not to shoot her.

Whittaker and Karl H. Mohlhenrich were at the scene when police arrived. The news release said troopers recovered a 20-gauge shotgun along with numerous live shotgun rounds from the home.

Troopers reported that the weapon had been discharged into an upstairs bathroom ceiling. According to the news release, Whittaker told police that Mohlhenrich, 48, of the 4300 block of Old Washington Road, pointed the shotgun at her and threatened to shoot.

Mohlhenrich was arrested at the scene and is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for a bail hearing.
