Ravens To Receive 'Heart of Westminster'

The Westminster community and fans from all over will rally in support of the Baltimore Ravens Saturday.

Westminster businesses and residents took a hit when the Ravens recently announced that they would not be returning to McDaniel College in 2012 for training camp.

In spite of the disappointment, we still love our Ravens.

On Saturday the community will honor the tradition of the Ravens in Westminster with a rally to celebrate the team. Consider yourself officially invited to the festive, family-friendly event.

Mayor Kevin Utz will issue a special proclamation and award the "Heart of Westminster" to the Baltimore Ravens at noon at the arch at McDaniel College.

The Ravens Main Street America Parade will begin at 1 p.m. at McDaniel College and proceed east on Main Street and end at Longwell Ave. Immediately following the parade, Ravens Roost 115 will host a reception and pep rally at Key Municipal Lot at the end of Longwell Avenue where families can get celebrity autographs and enjoy live entertainment.

Nonprofit organizations can still get in on the action. The parade registration deadline has been extended until 5 p.m. Friday.

The following celebrities and entertainment will be at the event:

  • Kirk McEwen, 98 Rock and WBAL, Master of Ceremonies
  • "Poe", the Official Ravens Mascot
  • Santa & Mrs. Claus, North Pole Westminster Fire Department
  • Bennie Thompson, Baltimore Raven (1996 – 2005)
  • Joseph "Joe" Maese, Baltimore Raven (2001 – 2004)
  • Special Ravens-Themed '52 Buick, Greg Hudnet More than 20 Classic & Vintage Cars
  • Live music by Wylde Fire Band
