SPEAK OUT: What do you Hate about Political Commercials?

Do you see any value in the onslaught of political ads?

Just like holiday decorations seem to appear in stores earlier and earlier each year, it seems like every election cycle features the ubiquitous campaign ads sooner and sooner.

At times, it seems like the usual TV ad buyers - Coke, Apple, Honda, etc. - can't even find :30 to squeeze their messages in between attack ads.

Do these ads provide value, or do they simply confuse potential voters?

On the national stage, pro-Obama ads target the now infamous "47 percent," Bain Capital or Mitt Romney's apparently changing positions on hot button issues. On the red state side, ads attack Obama on health care, the economy and foreign policy.

Locally, races in Virginia seem to sink even deeper, with candidates slamming each other on education, abortion and job creation.

In Maryland, it is becomong more difficult to discern whether Question 7 is a good or bad thing for the state with countelss ads on both sides of the issue.

So, feel free to step up onto this virtual soapbox and share your opinion of political ads with your fellow Patch readers.

I don't like emotional ads that divide us and prey on emotions. Saturday, the Pres told an audience to get even and vote. This is about patriotic duty and love of country, and protecting our freedoms. Not getting even...

I just can't wait until the election is over so we will no longer be bombarded by the robocalls, the yard signs and the TV ads. These ads do not educate anyone about the issues, they merely twist facts in favor of their candidates. I am mostly interested in the Maryland referendums--some of them are rather clear issues of which you just have to decide what you believe is right (gay marriage, redistricting), but Question 7 is a muddle. Both sides are being supported by different casino interests, and it is very hard to determine which is better for the people of Maryland. I have done a lot of research and finally made a decision, but the ad campaigns of both sides have done nothing to help with that decision. Neither side cares about what is best for us, they only care about what will make them money. It is better not to even consider these ads when making your decision.

Casino's are rigged so that the greed driven owners win...it's the nature of the beast.
Casino's have and will continue to destroy the lives of human beings and their families.
How can something that is rigged to create losers while destroying lives be good at any level.
I view this as serious weakness in the governments ability to manage fiscal responsibility at many levels....the gamble of weather or not the perceived funds will be allocated as promised is not worth the damage caused in the process.
In short, a cop out by those that support it because of the inability to do a better job.

I dislike the lies, spin, greed and hatefullness of elections. The folks running are suppose to be representing the citizens of this country and I am sorry to say they are nothing like me or my friends. I see to much hate and not enough working for the better cause.

I don't think any of the politicians should be able to speak about the other person - only their own views. That ges not only for ads but for debates and all of it. Most of the reason the debates weren't kept on track were because each candidate wanted to clarify misleading comments the other made about their points of view. If they answered the questions, or campaigned only on what THEIR viewpoint is, we could really compare them ourselves.

My mother in NY has been receiving phone calls from Rob Sobhani. I also have been receiving emails - but I don't know how he receive my email and (luckily) they have been going into my Spam folder. I'm completely confounded why he's campaigning in NY, however???

'Hate' is a pretty strong term... I think I am 'saddened', quite frankly. It was reported tonight that over $90 million dollars was spent/wasted trying to get voters to sway either way on Question 7 - to think of how much good that money could have afforded within our schools... that's just sad.
