William Henry Rinehart -- of "Sleeping Children" and "Cupid Stringing His Bow" -- may have been known best as an artist in Rome, Italy, but the famed American sculptor has ties to a familiar corner of Carroll County too. He was born in Union Bridge, MD, in 1825.
On Wednesday, Nancy Kurtz of the Maryland Historical Trust will examine Rinehart's neoclassical, naturalistic work that placed him among the leaders in the development of American scuplture. The Historical Society of Carroll County has sponsored this event:
- What: "Box Lunch Talks"
- Where: Carroll Post #31, American Legion
- When: 12-1 p.m.
- Price: $1 for members and $5 for non-members. Free parking available. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch or call the Legion between 11-11:30 a.m. at (410) 857-6953 to order BLT sandwiches, which will be served from noon to 12:45 p.m. or later. Beverages and desserts will be provided.
