Video: HSP Gets Cookin' at Bud's of Silver Run

There was lots of food, fellowship and fundraising at Bud's at Silver Run Monday.

More than 30 people took advantage of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday to attend a cooking class at Bud's at Silver Run. They came with a goal of learning how to make yummy food, and in the process they got to eat yummy food, and support a local cause.

Proceeds from the event, sponsored by Bud's at Silver Run, Gunner's Grill in Taneytown and Brewer's Market in Silver Run, will support the women and children's shelter run by Human Service Programs of Carroll County (HSP).

HSP operates six shelters in the Westminster area, in addition to offering a comprehensive list of other services to help people become self-sufficient.

Ken Lurie, owner and chef of Bud's at Silver Run, spent close to two hours presenting cooking techniques and sharing tips to making delicious food. Throughout his demonstrations, Lurie explained his commitment to buying his meat, dairy, produce and even wine, locally whenever possible.

At the end of the event, Lurie presented HSP Executive Director Cindy Parr with a check from an event held at Bud's at Silver Run in the fall.

Parr said she was pleased with the turnout for the event.

"I'm thankful for the support we have in this community," she said.

What a wonderful event for a great cause! I learned some informative cooking tips and met some nice people too. If you haven't yet tried Bud's at Silver Run, you should...the food, atmosphere and service are excellent! Thank you Ken Lurie for a most enjoyable time.
