Merriweather's 2013 Sweetlife Festival Lineup

Bands this year will include Phoenix, Passion Pit, Kendrick Lamar, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Gary Clark Jr.

The Sweetlife Festival is coming up at Merriweather Post Pavilion on May 11. Broken up into two stages, the bands are mostly indie or alternative rockers, but the lineup also includes rapper Kendrick Lamar and electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling. Main Stage: Phoenix, Passion Pit, Kendrick Lamar, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gary Clark Jr., Solange, Lindsey Stirling Treehouse Stage: Holy Ghost!, Youth Lagoon, Haerts, Robert Delong, MsMr, Twenty|One|Pilots Ticket prices are $75 for lawn seats, pavilion tickets are $95 and VIP tickets go for $150. Pocahontas Coming to stage of the Carroll Arts Center

This show, put on by young actors, will run May 10-12.

More than 40 young actors, singers and dancers will take the stage in early May in a delightful performance of the musical “Pocahontas” The "Wordspinner" and the rhythmic beat of the tom-toms open and close this charming musical adventure for all age groups.   The production is a culmination of a rigorous rehearsal process under the direction of Julie Herber of the Maryland Ensemble Theatre and Tabetha White, the Arts Council’s Children’s Theatre Coordinator, according to an Arts Council news release.  It features students in grades three through five and is filled with exuberant music, lively dance numbers and memorable characters. Mural Merges Art, Environment at Cranberry Station Elementary

An artist in residence program is allowing students at a Westminster elementary school to learn about Maryland while creating a clay masterpiece.

Fourth graders at Cranberry Station Elementary School are building a clay mural that will liven up a wall in the school while at the same time paying homage to the state of Maryland.  Artist Terry Whye is working with students at Cranberry Station Elementary to help them build the clay mural. She is also working with students in other grades to build other clay projects that will accompany the mural.  The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) initiated the project and is paying for Whye to work with the students through an Artist in Residence program.  The subject of the mural is native plants and the three regions of Maryland --ideas that are directly aligned with the fourth grade science and social studies curriculum according to PTA …

Carroll Arts Center Gets Spruced Up for its 10th Anniversary

The Carroll County Arts Center received $50,000 worth of repairs and updates on its 10-year anniversary.

This April marks the 10-year anniversary of the Carroll County Arts Center. The Carroll County Arts Council, formed in 1969 originally renovated this 76-year-old theatre in 2003.  The center has since acted as an art gallery for local artists, a classroom for aspiring artists, a theatre showcasing movies, shows, performances and productions of all kinds and more. In honor of the anniversary, the Carroll County Arts Council board of directors allocated $50,000 to be used to spruce up its Westminster Main Street location.  The center closed down for a week in early January in order to undergo the updates.  Repairs were made to some water damaged areas and an overhang was added at the loading dock.  The theatre portion of the center received …

The 6th Annual PEEP Show is happening now at the Carroll Arts Center.  The tasty art event, with 192 entries this year, will run through April 7. Grammy winners Fun., The Postal Service, and of Monsters and Men are just a few of the popular bands appearing at Merriweather this year.

Grammy Winners Fun. Coming to Merriweather in Columbia

Also, Grammy nominees The Lumineers will play the following weekend.

  Hot off their Best New Artist win at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, Fun. recently announced a live performance July 20 at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The indie rock band from New York City also won the Song of the Year Grammy for their catchy hit "We Are Young." At the Grammys, Fun.'s Nate Ruess, 30, joked, "I don't know what I was thinking writing the chorus for this song. If this is in HD, everybody can see our faces, and we are not very young," as the band accepted the award for Song of the Year. Tickets for Fun. go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. on Ticketfly.
