Blog: Limbaugh has to 'Eat Crow' and 'Humble Pie' for Dessert

Never thought I’d live to see the day when he’d get his comeuppance and ever admit to having pushed the envelope too far in his broadcasts on Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio Networks, when he lambasted a Georgetown University law student for her having testified to congressional Democrats in support of contraception.

That channel is, so it claims, the largest radio content provider in the country,  operating 850 radio stations in the U.S. and syndicating its programs to more than 5,000 affiliate stations.

And interestingly, its parent company was taken private in 2008 by an investment firm of notoriety in the Republican presidential campaign, Bain Capital. So, it’s not surprising that Romney downplayed Limbaugh’s tirade against her by simply saying, “that were not the words (slut and prostitute) I would have used.” And with nary a rebuke by the other candidates.

And I wonder if my favorite radio shows I listened religiously to as a kid-a la Jack Armstrong, the All American Boy, The Shadow, Tom Mix and the Green Hornet-ever met or surpassed the number of listeners he has.

Or, I should say had, what with the advertisers of his program fleeing in droves to avoid being associated, as one indicated, with his ranting and raving like a maniac for three days in a row, and going so far as to claim he, not her, had become the victim in the episode

And his so-called apology to that student-who told it like it is regarding the importance of contraception to women health came across as being as insincere as a fox apologizing for not knocking before entering the chicken house.

Now, you’d think I’d be shocked proof in seeing, as I have in my lifetime such asinine behavior and name-calling by others in the public limelight. For example, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson placing responsibility for such catastrophic events as the 9/11 attack, Katrina and tsunamis on the gays, feminists, abortionists, and the ACLU.

And U.S. House Majority Leader Dick Armey referring to Rep. Barney Frank as “Barney Fag” in a 1965 radio interview.

But the most vivid memory I have of where the line was not only crossed but erased, was the infamous, nonsensical “Daisy” campaign ad run by Democrats in 1964, showing a young girl picking flowers, followed by the image of a nuclear blast intended to depict Republican Barry Goldwater as a warmonger, playing off of our fears of a nuclear war.

The open-ended question is: will there be enough pressure brought to bear on the Clear Channel networks by its investors and the public to suspend or cancel his contract that runs untill 2016?

Wouldn’t that be something if he were to suffer the same fate as his fellow purveyor of fear Glenn Beck, whose angry broadcasts about the nation’s imminent doom and ominous conspiracies ultimately brought about his demise on Fox News?

A Hollywood script writer couldn’t come up with a more apt title for a screenplay made of it than one titled: When the Mighty have Fallen.

To quote Buddha, “holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; and you are the one who gets burned.”

C'mon Dave, don't fall into the same trap as the rest of the liberal media. Tell us the proof you have that his advertisers are "fleeing in droves", or is it just something you heard on cnn? And, refresh my memory, but I don't remember you writing about any opinions of yours about Bill Maher, Janeane Garofalo, or Ed Schultz calling other prominent women c*%t, tw$t, bi&^%h & other discusting names, far worse then anything Limbaugh ever said. Time to man-up Mr Grand, back up your accusations!! Or just sit down & shut up til you can, because until then you are only part of the problem, not the solution!

"Carbonite" is feeling it I would say, and what about Bill Maher? Hypocrisy at its finest.

So David, if you feel I'm wrong, how about the proof I was asking about? And what do you think about those other examples of rudeness?

For your edification, those who pay a monthly fee for cabel, and a surcharge for premium channels (a la HBO on which Bill Maher show appears) is tantamount to acknowledging that you know what you're getting into, filthy words and all. Whereas, radio programs like Limbaugher's are transmitted over-the-air via the publically owned spectrum, over which FCC's regulatory powers only cover.
(Why do I feel I might as well be talking to the wall.)

You're kidding? You actually think that excuses it? What Limbaugh did was wrong, but there is no excuse for the holier then though, sanctimonious posturing by the liberals as if he was the only one.

Actually, Maher and Schultz made some repugnant comments about GOP politicians. The difference is that the Gas Bag made his comments about Ms. Fluke, a private citizen who was exercisizing her First Amendment rights to address an issue in front of some Congress people. El Blimpo crossed the line.

Almost forgot to add this. You'll have to come up with something else, or at least get you facts straight. Laura Ingraham is not a politician (like that makes a difference), but try & remember what Schultz said about her.

As regards that Native American's last cmment on my blog, that if weren't for the respect I have for this country's original inhabitants I'd be tempted to use an F-bomb to silence him.

Ah, I see how it is. You feel the need to silence me since I disagree, typical. Lefty, I really have no response to your post. But it does reinforce my feelings about how politeness in this country has declined, & I see why.

Fellas, it all comes down to this. Rush said something wrong & the liberals in typical fashion jumped the gun (with the obediant media in tow), & crucified him. Then when they were called on it, the blatant hypocrosy was exposed for all to see. No amount of backpedaling will fix it, no matter how silent the leftist politicians try to be. Of course we all knew this, that is those of us who are really mature enough to act like adults & know how others should be treated. Rush screwed up (nobody had to tell me that), & I knew he'd apologise about it sooner or later. That's what adults (conservatives), do.

Ingram is also a public figure. Fluke is not, or at least wasn't at the time El Lardo made his comments. What Schultz said was also reprehensible. doesn't leave Viagra Man off the hook. Plus he has quitew a history of this.

Lol, that's ok Lefty, you aren't going to squeeze out of this one. Just as the rest of them trying, you can't explain away the obvious. The curtain has been pulled back.

Davey boy, there is dial on the radio if you don't like what you hear turn it, and as far as the FCC is concerned the words that Mr Limbaugh used are ok by there standards and you of all people should know that the Government know's whats in YOUR best interest right? The point is no matter where Mr Maher said these things it is wrong and nobody said thing about it. Sounds like a double standard to me whatcha think? Or are you going to drop a F-bomb on me , lol Face it Davey boy your wrong on this one.

native Limbaugh is getting the exposure he deserves. why argue about it? Yeah, yeah, I know. If I pointed out he was a chicken hawk who dodged Vietnam because of a sore on his rear end, you couldn't cite Chaney or Bush or Rumsfeld as fellow cowards, you'd point out Bill Clinton. Dang liberal media again.

Not the point of the debate, Fried. The argument is the refusal of the liberal media to acknowledge the hypocrisy of the left in giving their own examples of boorishness to go unchallenged.

Since I'm the only one here with facts, here is a sample of how the left loves to treat women;

Sure is, Native ;) What about what the left is allowed to say about the Tea Party? A la Hoffa, Jr, as just one example. Don't hear any apologies from that quarter either. Guess what's good for the goose is NOT good for the gander. Debating with a lib is like debating with a rock...only the rock would be more fun!
