A case in point was the firestorm my blog of 6/3 ignited, that drew a host of comments, both pro and con.

So inasmuch as I lit the fire, I feel an obligation to hopefully extinguish it.

The simple and feasible solution I came up with in my waking hours, few and fewer as they’ve become as a doting old man, would be to build a small, stone chapel on the grounds of the County Office Building (COB), ideally in the spacious employee’s parking lot, which has ample empty space for it to be located. And where Commissioner Frazier could conduct her weekly prayer sessions without violating the law by holding them within the COB.

It could be made to resemble, in size and appearance, the Corpus Christi chapel at the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton in Emmitsburg, which is highlighted on the visitor’s tour.

I’ve gone there many times over the years, and always found it to be a pleasant respite from the hectic world, what with its tranquil atmosphere and inspirational messages posted along the pathways.

And so, too, I believe, would a chapel here attract visitors from far and wide and be a welcomed addition to the county’s visitor tour, albeit if not as inspiring.

Cost-wise. it would be a drop in the bucket to construct and maintain, especially when compared to the half-million of taxpayer’s dollars the board has allocated to a defense fund for potential lawsuits lodged against them, collectively or individually.

And what Frazier and her flock would find most appealing about it, is that they could sing religious songs as often and loud as they choose to, without fear of being arrested for disturbing the peace. As the lead soprano in the choir at the Church of the Open Door, she’d rattle the rafters of the chapel, when (and if) she hits “high C.”
