Newly Formed Land Sea Air Manufacturing to Fill Former Knorr Brake Headquarters

The new company plans to employ a 50-person workforce by year end, according to a news release.

As Knorr Brake Corporation celebrates the opening of its new 235,000-square-foot facility on Rt. 97, newly formed manufacturing company Land Sea Air is settling into its new home -- the former Knorr Brake headquarters on Baltimore Blvd. in Westminster.  A former senior programs manager for General Dynamics has teamed with the owner of East Coast Machining Inc. to found Land Sea Air Manufacturing, a new corporation based in Westminster that fabricates components servicing the aircraft and aerospace industries, as well as defense contracting firms, according to a news release. Barber Shop's Move Offers New 'Amazing' Opportunity

After 12 years in business, Westminster Barber Shop is getting ready to provide their personal services in a new location at the Fairground Village Shopping Center.

Owner and operator Bryan Combs opened Westminster Barber Shop along with three co-workers in 2001. The co-workers have since left the shop but Combs has continued to run the business with the help of his wife, his daughter, his parents and a group of "outstanding employees" over the past 12 years.   Combs admits that operating a small business is extremely hard work. Firehouse Subs Gives More than $10,000 to New Windsor Fire Department

The grant from Firehouse Subs will help local fire companies buy new EMS equipment.

One local business has a goal of making firefighters more effective and citizens safer; it also makes great subs.  New Windsor Fire Company Chief Tom Coe posted on the fire company's website recently that Firehouse Subs, located at Crossroads Square Shopping Center, 625 Baltimore Blvd. in Westminster, donated money for new EMS equipment. According to Coe's post, The New Windsor Fire Department received a $10,507 grant from Firehouse Subs. The grant will be used to buy Automated External Defibrillators and CPR Training Equipment, Coe said. According to EMS Captain David Coe, "This grant will go a long way in making sure that the citizens and visitors of New Windsor are protected with cutting-edge lifesaving equipment. Carroll County Unemployment Rate Drops Slightly in February

Recent statistics show that Carroll County's unemployment rate is among the lowest in the state.

Unemployment rates for February 2013 released this week show Carroll County down slightly from January, ranking the county eighth in Maryland for the lowest percentage of unemployed residents.  About 6.4 percent of Carroll County residents were unemployed in February, down slightly from 6.7 percent in January and 6.8 percent in February of 2012, according to statistics from the Carroll County Department of Economic Development.  With 96,013 Carroll County residents in the labor force, 89,877 were employed in February, with 6,136 unemployed, statistics show.   From 2000 to 2008 the unemployment rate in Carroll County hovered around 3 percent.
