NATIONAL CANCER PREVENTION STUDY-3 KICKOFF OF THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY FOR CARROLL COUNTY AT CARROLL HOSPITAL CENTER

What if you could prevent even one family member from hearing the words, “You have cancer?” The American Cancer Society is seeking cancer fighters in Carroll County to participate in Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3), a historic, nationwide study to help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.  The famous CPS-1 established the link between smoking and lung cancer in the 1950s.  Recent CPS-2 findings have linked obesity to cancer risk.

Kickoff Speakers:

Leslie Simmons, COO & Executive Vice President of Carroll Hospital Center

Dr. Flavio Kruter, Medical Director, Carroll Regional Cancer Center

Gloria Jetter Crockett, State V.P., American Cancer Society Maryland

Beth Garbolino, Area Executive Director, American Cancer Society, Maryland

Champions and supporters of the American Cancer Society are coming together to kick off the enrollment drive for CPS-3 in Carroll County.  Champions are community residents – including cancer survivors, caregivers or those honoring a loved one who has battled cancer – who have volunteered to help drive CPS-3 awareness.  At the kickoff, they will learn about CPS-3 and receive the tools to educate the community and recruit participants.

cps-3 Enrollment takes place in Carroll County from March 12 -16, 2013 in partnership with Carroll Hospital Center, Four Seasons Sports Complex, M & T Bank and Merritt Athletic Club. For locations, dates and to register for enrollment, see www.CPS3CarrollCounty.org.

  • Men and women ages 30 to 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer (except for basal or squamous cell skin carcinoma)
