Maryland Needs Better Laws to Protect The Pet Animals Population

From Southern Maryland Alerts (Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's Counties). A notification went out on Saturday, September 14, 2013 that the TRI-COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER, 6707 Animal Shelter Road, Hughesville, Maryland 20637 was going to euthanize and entire room of dogs so they could remodel.  Luckily for these animals the alert went out and spread through social media to have private rescues and private owners come take these innocent animals to safety.

Here in Maryland we are seeing the same type of calous behavior throughout the counties.  It would seem that the private organizations are doing a much better job of taking care of the animals than the government organizations or the government "contract" organizations.

Please get involved and ...Question what your local shelter is doing. Why they are doing it. How they are using tax money. What philosophy do they follow? What is their success rate. What are they doing to improve it further. Get data so to compare to other shelters around the state so that decisions/programs can be based on real data. Find your local shelters IRS 990 form online so you can see what they spend the money on.  If you ask questions and don't get answers write the Board of Directors for your local shelter and ask them.

Above all do not let them get away with things like euthanizing a room full of dogs because it makes their lives easier.
