Established in 2009, the Community Impact Award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to strengthen marriages and families. The new Community Partnership award recognizes a successful collaborative relationship with MREC that significantly impacts marriages and families.

Bishop Ross and First Lady Brenda Jackson of Mt. Airy, MD are the 2014 Community Impact Award Winners because of their passionate efforts to uphold and honor the institution of marriage. Their work has been especially successful in multiethnic communities. The Jacksons have annually hosted the Team Builders Marriage Conference and have energetically rallied the community to build strong, healthy marriages.  More information on the Team Builders Marriage Conference can be found at:  http://www.wfcccmtairy.com/

“Bishop Ross and First Lady Brenda have worked tirelessly to build a ministry of care and compassion in the Mt. Airy and bordering communities, and they are seasoned and loving leaders,” says Bill McKenna, Co-Director of MREC. “The Jacksons are a model for any couple looking to impact marriages and families.”

MREC’s new award, the Community Partner Award, will be presented to TownMall Westminster for their enthusiastic participation in MREC’s Date Night Carroll Community Outreach Project held in October 2013.

“TownMall of Westminster was a key partner in the business community during this outreach,” said McKenna. “This project was a win-win for TownMall as well as the many couples involved.”

Both awards will be presented Friday, February 21st, at the 8th Annual Celebrate Marriage Fundraising Dinner and Auction to be held at Martins Westminster. For more information about the event or to schedule an interview, please contact Anne McKenna at 410-386-9003.

Additional information: Bishop Jackson is the Senior Pastor of West Falls Christian Community Church in Mt. Airy, MD. He is the founder and Presiding Prelate of Christian Heart Fellowship Ministries, Inc. based in Mt. Airy, Maryland, and the Founder and Chancellor of Christian Heart Bible College & Seminary, an accredited bible college and seminary, also based Mt. Airy. Vocationally, he is employed as a Safety Director by Daniel G. Schuster, Inc., a construction company with over 1,000 employees.  First Lady Jackson teaches at Mt. Airy Daycare Center.

MREC was founded in 2004 by retired Carroll County Public School educators, Bill and Anne McKenna, who saw the impact of divorce and family fragmentation on their students and in their neighborhood. They responded by founding the region’s first non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening marriages and families. MREC is dedicated to improving the lives of children in our community by strengthening families through marriage and relationship education, partnerships and public awareness efforts.   Information about programs and services may also be found at www.mrecenter.org.
