Boys and girls are preparing for the 2014 Middle Atlantic Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armour and Genesis Networks Wednesday & Thursday, July 2-3, 2014 at US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland

            In the field this year will be 2012 Champion, Bennett Wisner from Hampstead, MD.  Wisner, a Loyola commit, is ready to find his way back to the Champions circle.  Also, in the boys field is 2014 MAPGA Spring Fling runner up Victor Ortega from Manassas, VA. 

            The girls’ field includes 2013 champion Shannon Brooks from Vienna, VA and 2014 MAPGA Spring Fling champion Julie Luo from Centreville, VA.  The field is very strong this year with over 20 girls competing.

            The champions of the boys’ and girls’ division of the Middle Atlantic Junior PGA Championship qualify to join approximately 150 of the nation’s top junior golfers in the PGA of America’s flagship junior event, the Junior PGA Championship, which is July 29-August 1, 2014, at Miramont Country Club in Bryan/College Station, Texas.

            The 39th Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armour and Genesis Networks, is open to one boy and one girl champion from each of the 41 PGA Sections, champions of the eight PGA Junior Series events, select national junior tournaments conducted throughout the year and special invitees who have not reached their 19th birthdays as of the final round of the championship. 

            The Junior PGA Championship has traditionally been a stepping-stone for many of today’s PGA and LPGA Tour professionals as well as current collegiate stars. Past Junior PGA Championship competitors who have gone on to successful professional careers include: In-Bee Park, Jim Furyk, Luke Guthrie, Trevor Immelman, Cristie Kerr, Justin Leonard, Michelle McGann, Phil Mickelson, Grace Park, Dottie Pepper, Jordan Spieth, David Toms, Lexi Thompson, Michelle Wie and Tiger Woods.
