NATIONAL EXPERT ON MEMORY HEALTH TO SPEAK AT COVENANT VILLAGE CARE NEIGHBORHOOD OPEN HOUSE

Len Lecci, Ph.D., an expert on memory health, will speak at the Covenant Village of Colorado care neighborhood open house on Monday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. The public is invited to hear Dr. Lecci and see the new look in the care neighborhoods at Covenant Village, 9221 Wadsworth Parkway, Westminster.

University of North Carolina psychology professor Dr. Len Lecci will explore ways to keep your mind sharp. Dr. Lecci has published extensively in medical journals, briefed Congress on topics related to dementia, and been recognized with numerous teaching awards.

The open house debuts a $350,000 floor-to-ceiling renovation of the Covenant Village care neighborhoods of assisted living, memory support and health care. At the front door, a quiet, self-opening door ushers you into the renovated lobby where hardwood-look floors, carpeted seating areas and custom millwork establish the comforting residential ambiance that’s the signature of the renovation.

“This is more than a facelift,” says Brenda Hancock, health care administrator at Covenant Village of Colorado. “We used this renovation to address the needs of residents while creating the conversation and activity areas that build community. With what seemed like simple changes, we’ve created areas where people can visit, talk, socialize and participate — all the activities that build community.”

New spaces in assisted living

In assisted living, professional space planning and decorating provide subtle support for residents who need a little help with activities of daily living. A cheery library features high hat lighting to ensure good reading light and comfortable armchairs that are easy to get in and out of. A built-in saltwater aquarium and stone-faced fireplace and hearth offer entertaining backdrops to seating areas created to facilitate conversation and activity.

Model assisted living residences demonstrate the options available to those who choose assisted living at Covenant Village.

Residential ambiance in health care

The residential ambiance continues in the rehab and health care center. Again, creative space planning used new furnishings and accent pieces to create conversation areas with comfortable seating. A table with infused water and snacks gives the feeling of an upscale hotel. A new puzzle table is a hit with residents. The center’s hallmark finches, doves and canaries have a new home where they will continue to entertain guests and residents.

A new activity room with a kitchenette as well as general activity, conversation and TV centers is successfully luring residents to share the camaraderie of the community.
