Update: Flood Warning in Carroll County Friday

Rain, heavy at times, is expected to continue through this evening.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Warning in Carroll and Frederick Counties until 4 p.m. Friday. A Flood Watch remains in effect until midnight in the Baltimore metro area.

According to NWS, at 10:04 a.m. Friday, radar estimated one to three inches of rain has fallen since early this morning. A heavy band of rain will move across central Carroll and Frederick Counties over the next hour or two, which according to NWS, when added to earlier rainfall, could cause flooding.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported. Stream rises will be slow, however, all affected parties (those near small streams prone to flooding) should take necessary precautions immediately, warns NWS.

The Flood Watch issued at 6 a.m. Friday remains in effect through midnight for the Baltimore area.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Tips for driving through water from Weather.com:

  • Do not drive through flooded areas. If you see a flooded-out road ahead, turn around. Find another route to your destination.
  • If there is no other route, get to higher ground and wait for the waters to subside.
  • Even if the water appears shallow enough to cross, don't try it. Water hides dips in the road. Worse yet, there may be no road at all under the water. Flooding can scour away the entire road surface and a significant amount of ground beneath.
  • If your car stalls, abandon it immediately and climb to higher ground.
  • Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control or possible stalling.
  • One foot of water will float almost many vehicles.
  • Two feet of rushing water can sweep away most vehicles — including SUVs and pick-ups.
