Carroll Countians Prepare to Dance in the Name of Alzheimer's Research

Jane Sewell, Mary Beth Luber and Ryan Burns will be "Dancing with the Stars" in April.

Carroll Countians are stepping up to participate in "Dancing with the Stars" gala competitions to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association.

Jane Sewell, Executive Director of the Union Mills Homestead Foundation in Westminster, will dance in the Baltimore Memory Ball Gala, April 13.

Built in 1797, Union Mills is the original home of the Shriver family, of which Sewell is a descendant. Carroll County owns the property and the Foundation operates it as a museum and raises funds to keep it going. Sewell has been director for the past 13 years.

"l am dancing this year to honor the memory of my cousin, Robert Sargent Shriver, who was one of the most delightful, charming,  and 'elegant' men I have ever known," Sewell said. "Sargent was the first Director of the Peace Corps, and was also the Ambassador to France, he suffered from Alzheimer’s for about 8 years, and passed away in January, 2011 at the age of 95."

Mt. Airy couple Mary Beth Luber and Ryan Burns will dance in the Forget-Me-Not Gala in Frederick on April 20.
