Caterpillars, Spiders and Butterflies, Oh My! Three Cool Nature Activities in Westminster

Carroll County Recreation and Parks finishes summer break up with a fun that includes caterpillars, spiders and butterflies. Check out three awesome opportunities to have some family fun with nature at Bear Branch Nature Center in Westminster. 

  • Caterpillar Quest on Saturday, Aug. 24: It’s time for our annual hunt for the colorful Monarch caterpillar! Help us search the milkweed for eggs and larva to display in our Monarch Life Cycle exhibit. Age: all, Time: 10-11:30 a.m. Fee: $7
  • Web Weavers on Saturday, Aug. 31: Spiders are fascinating creatures. Discover how they hunt, who they eat, and why they spin webs. Make a spidery craft to take home. Age: all Time: 2-3:30 p.m. Fee: $7
  • Monarch Tagging & Training on Sunday, Aug. 25 from 1-3 p.m. Learn all about Monarch Watch. Safely catch, tag and release butterflies, and record crucial data to help track the migration. Participants are required to volunteer at the Monarch Madness Festival on Sunday, Sept. 15. Age: 12-adult
