Fishing Derby, Blacksmith Days, May Fest and More in Carroll County this Weekend

Looking for something exciting to do this weekend? Check out some of the fun things going on around town.

Past Times for Children Present One Room Schoolhouses

  • Where:  Historical Society of Carroll County, 216 E Main St, Westminster
  • When:  Saturday, May 18, 10 a.m.
  • Description:  Children will learn what it was like to attend school in a one room schoolhouse. They will "visit" this time period through dramatic play, stories, song and various activities.
  • Cost: $6

Thirty-One Bingo

  • Where:  3297 York St, Manchester
  • When:  Saturday, May 18, 5:30 p.m.
  • Description:  Bingo event featuring prizes.  All proceeds benefit Hailey’s Wish and Christmas Tree Park for the purchase of accessible playground equipment. 
  • Cost: $10

Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre

  • Where:  Baldwin's Station, 7618 Main St, Sykesville
  • When:  Friday, May 17, 6:30 p.m.
  • Description:  Whodunnit for Hire will present the musical comedy "The Great CLUE Mystery."  Guests will wonder was it the Colonel in the kitchen with the candlestick?  Or the Professor in the parlor with the leadpipe?
  • Cost: $60

10 x 10 Art Exhibit

  • Where:  Carroll Arts Center, 91 W. Main Street, Westminster
  • When:  April 18 – June 7
  • Description:  Unique art exhibit commemorates the Arts Center's 10th anniversary. Features more than 100 works of art -- all exactly 10 inches by 10 inches, and all for sale at $100 each. 
  • Cost:  Free

Taneytown Fishing Derby

  • Where:  Roberts Mill Rd., Taneytown
  • When:  Saturday, May 25, 8 – 11 a.m.
  • Description:  Roberts Mill Park Pond for children all ages through 12 years, must be accompanied by adult. Registration is free and takes place 8 to 9 a.m.; Derby begins at 9 a.m. weather permitting. All participants’ catches will be judged based on age group with prizes awarded for the largest catches in each age group. Please bring your own rods, bait, and bucket.
  • Cost:  Free

Hampstead Day

  • Where:  Main Street, Hampstead
  • When:  Saturday, May 18, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Description:  Main Street festival with antiques, crafts, entertainment, kid's rides, and antique classic car show. Bus shuttle from North Carroll High School.
  • Cost:  Free 

Blacksmith Days

  • Where:  Saturday, May 18 – Sunday, May 19, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • When:  Carroll County Farm Museum, 500 S. Center Street, Westminster
  • Description:  Hosted by the Blacksmith Guild of Central Maryland. Guest blacksmiths demonstrate specialty blacksmithing. Hands-on classes. Auction of blacksmith equipment and forged items. Food for sale; Farmhouse tours, Living History Center, exhibit buildings. Museum season passes honored.
  • Cost: $5

Mount Airy MayFest

  • Where:  Main Street, Mount Airy
  • When:  Saturday, May 18 – Sunday, May 19, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Description:   Old-fashioned street festival with lots of vendors, crafts, artists, food, live entertainment and much more.
  • Cost:  Free
