Forecasters Not Far Off: Snowfall Totals in Carroll County

A storm that had forecasters guessing for a week finally arrived in Carroll County Thursday afternoon. The storm, which brought snow, below average temps and wind gusts, forced many local organizations and schools to delay opening or close all together on Friday, Jan. 3. 

Final predictions as the storm entered the area were that the Carroll area would see two to four inches of accumulation or three to five inches of accumulation, depending on the forecaster. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Westminster accumulated around 5.5 inches of snow

Other totals from the area, according to NWS, include:

  • Eldersburg 6 inches
  • Mount Airy 6 inches
  • Millers 5.1 inches
  • Sykesville 5.8 inches
  • Lineboro 5.6 inches
  • Taneytown 5.5 inches
  • Winfield 5.2 inches
These measurements were taken by NWS employees, weather stations and trained spotters.
