After several years of donating home goods, non-perishable foods, and sack lunches to Human Services Programs of Carroll County, Inc. (HSP) for Thanksgiving, Gerstell Academy has expanded its partnership with the county’s Community Action non-profit according to a news release.
HSP and Gerstell will partner the non-profit’s Women & Children’s and Family Shelters with the academy’s Upper School. Students in the Upper School will collaborate with the two shelters at HSP to identify needs for residents. The first new project is already planned as a collection for Baskets of Hope containing household and personal care items to help residents set up housekeeping when they transition from the shelter into permanent housing.
HSP is the Community Action Agency for Carroll County, serving local at-risk and low-income residents through services such as Emergency and Energy Assistance Programs, Housing Programs and Homeless Shelters (for women and children, men, families, individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues, and Emergency Cold Weather), Domestic Violence Safe House, Family Support Center, Child Care Food Program, Opportunity Works at Second Chances – job readiness, life skills, financial management and free tax prep, and Neighbors In Need.
Gerstell Academy is an independent, non-profit, college preparatory school located in Finksburg.
