It's Here! NWS Issues Weather Alerts for Winter Storm, Wind Chill and Wind

Travel will be hazardous tonight, officials warn.

Get yourself home this evening and plan to stay there. The weather is going to get worse over night.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued several alerts for Carroll County including a Winter Storm Warning until 5 a.m. Friday, a Wind Chill Advisory from 4 a.m. until noon Friday and a Wind Advisory from 2 a.m. until noon Friday.

Carroll County can expect to continue getting snow Thursday night with temperatures around 13 degrees and a wind chill close to two below zero. Winds could gust as  high as 41 miles per hour and NWS forecasts three to five inches of accumulation.

The sun will come out tomorrow but it will do little to help warm things up with temperatures staying below 20 degrees and a wind chill of seven below zero. Not enough? There could also be wind gusts as high as 46 miles per hour.

Officials from NWS and the State Highway Administration warn that travel will be dangerous tonight.

Hazardous travel conditions can be expected from snow covered roads, the NWS warns. Any residual moisture or slush on roads will rapidly freeze overnight.

If you must go out, be prepared should your vehicle become stranded. Have water, blankets, flashlight and food in case of emergency.
