Tammy Black Honored with Humanitarian Award

Access Carroll Executive Director Tammy Black has hardly had a moment to breathe after her nonprofit healthcare organization moved to a new location late last week. But Wednesday morning she was all smiles as she received the Sylvia Canon Humanitarian Award at a breakfast ceremony.

Sylvia Canon is a legend in the Carroll County nonprofit world, known for her dedication and commitment to serving those in need. She was the driving force behind the opening of Human Service Programs (HSP) 25 years ago.

The Community Services Council created the Sylvia Canon Humanitarian Award in 2001 to recognize individuals who have had a significant impact in the Carroll County nonprofit community.

Black earned this year's award based on her work as the executive director of Access Carroll. Under her leadership Access Carroll has grown in both the service it provides as well as the number of people it serves.

"It's a great honor," Black said. "Being the recipeint of the Sylvia Canon Humanitarian Award has significance because of the great work Sylvia accomplished in Carroll County that has touched thousands of lives."

"There's so much more that's done behind the scenes," Black said as she acknowledged her staff and volunteers. "I love the people that I work with and consider them each a part of of our collective success."
