Ten Years After 9/11: 'A Day to Remember' at Taneytown Memorial Park

Rich Fraizer, Chairman of the 9/11 Day to Remember Committee and Commander of the Hesson-Snider American Legion Post 120 was disappointed that there was little done to commemorate 9/11 last year. 

This year, Fraizer and the Hesson-Snider American Legion Post 120 have coordinated a full roster of guest speakers, six musical acts, fun activities for kids and food venders to ensure that the tenth anniversary of 9/11 would be “A Day to Remember.”

A Day to Remember will be held in the Taneytown Memorial Park. It is free and open to the public.

“Our basic desire is to honor and remember those who lost their lives on 9/11, be they the victims of the towers, the Pentagon or on United Airlines Flight 93, as well as those first responders who risked their lives trying to save others," Fraizer said.  

"We also want this event to thank and honor those service members who are still out there, day to day, continuing to protect and serve."

One of the highlights of A Day to Remember will be the unveiling of a 9/11 Memorial, commissioned by the American Legion. This memorial will be revealed as a present to the city of Taneytown. 

Sue O’Brien-Knox, an air traffic controller who was working at BWI on Sept. 11, 2001 is scheduled to speak and Congressman Roscoe Bartlett will also be at the event. 

The Taneytown Lions Club and local caterer Richad Creager will provide food and the Westminster Municipal Band will play patriotic music starting at 3 p.m. Ceremonies will begin at 4 p.m.

Entertainment at the event will include:

• Lighthouse Praise Band 
• Taneytown Community Chorus
• Runnymede Honors Chorus made up of fourth and fifth graders 
• Half Serious, a regional rock band out of Westminster
• Moon Bounce
• Face Painting
• Elvis Presley impersonator Joe Forrester
