Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Carroll, Surrounding Counties
Officials are warning that travel could be dangerous during and following the storm.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Carroll County from 6 p.m. through 3 a.m. in anticipation of a storm that is expected to deliver snow and freezing temperatures starting this afternoon.
Carroll, Frederick, Harford, Howard and Baltimore Counties are under the Winter Weather Advisory as NWS is forecasting two to four inches of snow and temps in the upper 20s starting this evening and extending into the overnight hours.
NWS reports that snow accumulations, wind gusts and freezing temperatures could make travel difficult. The State Highway Administration (SHA) is warning truck drivers to plan ahead.
“While the current forecasts call for only one to four inches of snow, the back side of the storm may bring winds up to 40-50 mph and bitter cold overnight and into Friday,” said SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters in a statement. “Travelers, particularly professional truck drivers and distributors, need to pay close attention to updated forecasts and adjust plans. Our crews can make tremendous progress when traffic is light but one jackknifed tractor trailer or a few disabled vehicles can cause significant delays.”
