Arts Council Closed through Sunday for Cosmetic Updates

The Carroll Arts Council is getting a good freshening up this week.

The Carroll Arts Center will be closed through Sunday, Jan. 13 for cleaning and cosmetic improvements.

Arts Center Executive Director Sandy Oxx said that the improvements include a "major cleaning and reorganizing" among other projects that include:

  • repainting the interior
  • adding track lights to the second floor halls
  • upgrading the sound system
  • redoing the theatre floor
  • painting the stage

Oxx said that in the spring they will focus on exterior projects, including repairs from water damage, fixing the marquee, and adding an overhang to the loading dock.

"Without a doubt--it's not sexy stuff, and a lot of it the public won't even notice it, but it is very important maintenance," Oxx said.

The updates are being paid for with Arts Council reserve funds, a Self Help grant from County Recreation & Parks and a Facade Improvement Grant from the city of Westminster, according to Oxx.

Additionally, Oxx said the Arts Council is applying for a Historic Preservation Grant to hopefully redo the linoleum floors on the second floor sometime this summer.
