Debbie Levy to Present "A Year of Goodbyes"

Debbie Levy to Speak on Sunday, April 22 @ 2pm at St. Mary’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Silver Run, MD.  As part of the congregation’s 250th anniversary joint commemoration with St. Mary’s United Church of Christ, Debbie Levy will be sharing her award-winning book, The Year of Goodbyes:  A True Story of Friendship, Family, and Farewells (Disney-Hyperion).  At the heart of the book, there is another book—Debbie’s mother’s poesie album, a type of autograph album or friendship book.  Throughout 1938, her last year living as a Jewish girl in Nazi Germany, Debbie’s mother, Jutta, had friends fill her poesie album with verses and drawings.  These entries serve as the springboards for this true story about friends trying to carry on their lives in the midst of rising fear and danger, while saying goodbye to each other—without knowing what lay ahead.  The event will commemorate Yom Hoshoa (Days of Remembrance) when more than 6 millions Jews, Christians and others were annihilated in Nazi concentration camps.  Lite refreshments available.  Doors open at 1:30pm; presentation will begin at 2pm.  No charge for event; free will offering will be taken.  For more information call 443-244-0453. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me ~  Thanks so much! Brenda MeadowsSt. Mary's 250th Anniversary Committee443-244-0453
