There is something for everyone in downtown Westminster this weekend.

Spring is full of things to do in downtown Westminster. Whether it's comic books, fresh produce or live music, there is something for everyone on Main Street this weekend.

Nationally renowned folk singer and songwriter Cheryl Wheeler will be performing a benefit concert on behalf of the Human Service Programs (HSP) of Carroll County, Inc. Cheryl’s low key, self-deprecating manner, quirky humor, natural story-telling ability and beautiful voice have made her one of the shining lights of today’s folk scene. General admission tickets are $25 per person. VIP Tickets are $50 per person and include premiere seating closest to the stage, a complimentary wine and cheese reception following the concert and a listing as a donor in both the HSP newsletter and on the HSP website.

Hosted by Randy David, the Humanistic Nuts Stand Up Comedy Show will have the unflappable “DUCK” as the headliner for the evening. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

The Downtown Westminster Farmers’ Market, Carroll County’s oldest, outdoor “Producers Only farmers’ market, opens for its 19th season today. Visit the market’s 15 vendors for some of the freshest produce, finest meats, best baked goods & healthiest plants around. Strings on Wings will perform some great music from 10 a.m. until noon.

Chef Billy Schroeder strikes again! Giulianova will be offering pit ham, pit beef, and pit turkey, along with other seasonal treats, every Saturday until October. To kick off the promotion, local bluesman Christopher James will be performing live from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be tastings of Piacci Brand cheese and Cortazzo BBQ sauce from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Westminster has one of the longest running Memorial Day parades in the United States. Have your 3- to 6-year-old discover the excitement of celebrating parades in Carroll County through music, stories and creativity. They will also create their own flag that they will be able to wave at the Westminster Memorial Day parade on May 28th . There is a $5 charge for each class per child; a materials fee may apply. Pre-registration is required.

Join Jeannette Gibby of Gibby's Dollhouse Shoppe as she shares how to make a dream dollhouse. She will demonstrate how to make accessories and install lighting in a dollhouse as well as create "room boxes". Ms. Gibby will answer any questions about this fascinating hobby for all ages. Children age 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

: National Kids to Parks Day & Small Fry Triathlon – 10:30 a.m., Behind 11 Longwell Avenue – (410) 848-9161
Westminster Rec & Parks Department is celebrating National Kids to Parks Day. Enter the Small Fry Triathlon at Westminster City Park. Children ages 3-6 will run, ride a bicycle or tricycle and “swim” through the sprinkler to the finish line where everyone will receive a medal! Enjoy a FREE snowball. Recreation on the Move, SafeKids Carroll County, D.A.R.E. and Paradise of Fun Children Fitness Fun Center will be out and about at the park! Bike safety and helmet fit checks will be performed. The will have a book sale in Mary Lou Dewey Park from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Event is free, except for the Small Fry Triathlon where there is a $5 entry fee per child.

: SPEECH PATHways Foundation Presents Milkshake, 2 p.m.

The Foundation will mix things up at a FUNdraiser with a special trio performance by members of the Grammy-nominated kids’ band, Milkshake. Kids from tiny to 10 will enjoy rockin’ out with their parents to Lisa Mathews, Mikel Gehl, and Michael Sheppard of the Milkshake Band in an up-close performance on the Carroll Arts Center stage. All proceeds from this family-friendly concert will benefit the SPEECH PATHways Foundation, a local nonprofit foundation that seeks to improve the lives of children who have communication disorders.
