Eldersburg Commons OK'd, Construction To Start

Construction on a new retail center in Eldersburg will begin immediately after the Eldersburg Commons project was given the green light Wednesday.

The Carroll County Planning Commission approved plans for the $50 million, 290,000-square-foot project—which will replace 35-year-old Carrolltown Mall, according to a news release from the developer, Black Oak Associates.

“We’ve worked long and hard to get to this point and we’re ready to start building Eldersburg Commons," Black Oak Associates partner Dixon Harvey said in the statement. "This project has already received strong interest from some of the country’s premier retailers and we’re very close to signing several new tenant agreements."

The project will feature a Walmart Supercenter and more than a dozen retail options, the release said. Fashion, home furnishings and a pet store will also be accompanied by restaurants, the release said.

Eldersburg Commons is slated to open in fall 2014, at which point it will support approximately 630 new jobs, according to Black Oak Associates.
