Food, Drinks and Shaving at Rafael's Thursday Night

Don't miss the Mustache Bash, good fun in the name of men's health, Thursday at Rafael's.

November may be over, but the Movember Mustache Bash is taking place Thursday at Rafael's, 32 West Main St. in Westminster. The Mustache Bash promises fun for a good cause.

Movember is an international charity and movement to raise awareness about men's health issues including prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health issues.

Movember encourages men to join the movement by growing a mustache for the 30-days of November. The goal is simply to start a conversation -- someone asks why a person is growing the mustache and the answer includes information about promoting men's health.

And those Movember mustaches are coming off of several local men Thursday night at Rafael's. Stylists from the Elements of Style Salon in Eldersburg will do the shaving and trimming, according to Rafael Javier, owner of Rafael's.

There will be a mustache contest, as well as drink specials and a DJ. Official Movember t-shirts will also be on sale.

Proceeds made from the event will go to the Movember charity, according to Javier.

Javier, who has grown his own mustache and beard for Movember, said the purpose of the month-long event is to spark conversation about men's health issues.

"The whole idea is to get people to talk about it," Javier told Patch. "If you talk about it, you're more likely to do something about it."
