Following the trend of other national retailers responding to Obamacare, part-time Target employees will no longer be eligible for the company’s health insurance plans in April, reports Bloomberg.com.

Companies with more than 50 employees are required to provide health insurance under the new federal health care law.

The move mirrors changes made last year by other companies including Home Depot and Trader Joe's, the grocer once lauded for providing health care coverage to its part-time workers, to end coverage to their part-timers.

Employees who work between 20 and 31 hours a week at Target are eligible for a cash payment of $500 to help in the transition, the Los Angeles Times reports. And, Target has hired a firm to help those workers bumped from health care select plans in state and federal healthcare marketplaces.

Target, the nation’s second-largest discount retail chain, said less than 10 percent of its workforce of about 361,000 participates in the health plan for part-time workers, reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

what can you say about Target. It's the new Walmart. First they screw customers by allowing millions of credit cards to ba hacked from the safe and "secure" data base. Now they screw their employees by cutting them from their health care plan and giving them $500 to get another one. Good luck finding a health care plan for $500 a year. Like walmart, let the taxpayer subsidize their employees.

The Washington Examiner and Fox News. Great sources of objective, unbiased news. You may want to ask a Walmart employee (nonmanagement) what they think.

They are both GREAT objective news sources David, and very accurate regarding the Walmart healthcare plan. Are you a Walmart employee? Please recommend a news source that would meet your high expectations David...

David Iacona liberal protocol... 1. Post lies made up by the democratic committee and posted to places like daily koz and moveon.org 2. Attempt to discredit posted sources that counter your lies by saying sources a just conservative liars. 3. Start personal attacks again person who called them out in the first place. I guess I'll have to wait for #3.

I sure do miss all of the mom & pop stores that these big box stores have put out of business. Virtually nothing is made in America anymore due to obtaining the goods cheaper from China, where workers are really cheap slave labor. If at all possible, I buy nothing made in China...it's usually cheap and doesn't last anyway. Sometimes I can't avoid it, but I do whenever I can. If an American made item and a Chinese made item are sitting side by side, I will always purchase the American made item, even if it does cost a little higher. Then there was the scandal about pet foods made in China.....
