Patch readers in the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore suburbs recently voted on where to go for their favorite breakfast. Winners ranged from the trendy to the serving the basics and doing it right.

The following is the list highlighting the restaurants that received the top number of votes this week during the contest.

Eggspectation, 6010 University Blvd, Ellicott City, MD 21043. From yogurt parfait to short stacks, to, of course, eggs and bacon, for breakfast in Ellicott City is . Started in Montreal in 1993, the restaurant has since spread -- throughout Canada, India and, in 2004, in the United States with Eggspectation Restaurants, LLC.

Bagel Bin & Deli, 8630 Guilford Rd Ste M, Columbia, MD 21046. You can get everything from bagels and coffee to specialty sandwiches at this joint that won the in Columbia.

J Café, 172 E. Main St, Westminster, MD 21157. The casual cafe offers breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Sunday. One commenter in the said that is "fast, delicious and has a great environment."

Zi Pani Breads & Café, 1311 Londontown Blvd, Sykesville, MD 21784. One commenter on the said that bagels are "always fresh and usually still hot...The coffee is great and you got to try their smoothies." 

Martha and Mary’s, 75 Main St, Reisterstown, MD 21136. Owner Annie Derzak has bright floral paintings on the walls , which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner items.

Duesenberg’s American Café and Grill, 10 Mellor Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228. Owner Gary Teegardin and his staff have a reputation in town for quality food, excellent service and huge portions. Catonsville Patch readers as the top breakfast place in town.

Silver Diner, 14550 Baltimore Ave, Laurel, MD 20707. uses fresh food from local farms and serves it with a touch of 1950s nostalgia.

The Bagelry, 36 Vital Way, Silver Spring, MD 20904. The bagel store and deli offers more than 15 kinds of bagels as well as a variety of pastries. A bagel with flavored cream cheese is $2.79. 

Café Bagel, 6010 Marshalee Dr, Elkridge, MD 21075.  Take this endorsement as proof of popularity with the hometown crowd: “Big and delicious omelets, great bagels and good coffee.” —Steven Caruso

Rams Head Tavern, 8600 Foundry St, Savage, MD 20753. The main eatery in historic Savage Mill,  is a tavern-cum-restaurant with a separate bar on the lower level called Rathskellar. A Jazz Brunch is held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sundays with all-you-can-drink Bloody Marys for $10.

Paul’s Restaurant, 5507 Oregon Ave, Arbutus, MD 21227. is a dining fixture in the Arbutus area and is located next to the nostalgic Hollywood Theatre. Free wireless, too.
