Unemployment in Carroll County Rises for the Second Time in 2013

The county retained its spot as the county with the third-lowest rate in the state.

Unemployment rates for June 2013 released recently rank Carroll County third in Maryland for the lowest percentage of unemployed residents for the month according to the county's department of Economic Development. 

But for the second time in 2013, the monthly unemployment rate has increased. 

Of Carroll County residents, 6.4 percent were unemployed in June 2013, up from 5.8 percent were unemployed in May. Unemployment has not been this high since February, when unemployment rates were also at 6.4 percent.

For the month of June, two counties have unemployment rates lower than Carroll County - Montgomery County at 6 percent and Howard County with 5.8 percent.

Carroll County started the year with a 6.7 percent unemployment rate. Year-to-date, the unemployment rate averages 6.1 percent. Maryland's unemployment rate for June was 7.5 percent.
