What Do You Want to See at the Superfresh Site?

This building that used to house Superfresh would make a great ... you fill in the blank!

Westminster has a lot of great businesses, but is there anything missing? A certain type of establishment or a new store?

This building at 400 Englar Road, the former location of Superfresh Grocery Store, has been vacant since July.

What do you think should move in? Tell us in the comments section below what you'd like to see here.

Trader Joe's would be perfect.
Susan February 07, 2012 at 04:12 PM
Definitly , we need a large health food store. Trader Joes or one like the Common Market in Frederick. A Ryans Buffett would be fantastic. There's one in Hanover. How about a Steak and Shake resturant. Please, not another Matress store.

Trader Joe's!!!!!!

Thanks for this link, Cindy! I would love a Trader Joe's here in Westminster so I went right to the site and let them know. I hope everyone does this too!!
Beth February 07, 2012 at 04:43 PM
I would love a Trader Joe's too! I also agree that we need something different - not another regular grocery store (I think all the major chains are represented already), not another mattress or furniture store, something different- Please.

Dave and Busters.

Trader Joe's first choice; if not, possibly Whole Foods
Adam February 07, 2012 at 06:01 PM
Wegmans/Trader Joe's/Whole Foods. All my top picks!!
Mona February 07, 2012 at 06:24 PM
Trader Joe's! That would be fantastic!
Deborah February 07, 2012 at 07:07 PM
We do need and deserve something "different"...I often find myself traveling outside the county to seek more of a selection and quality when shopping. I agree with everyone. While we would all LOVE a Wegman's, it would likely become a decade-long battle to win a Wegman's here (It took at least this long for Howard County to persuade its community to welcome one). The fear was that it would threaten business from all other surrounding retailers (which is indeed a possibility). Again, I would LOVE a Barnes & Noble (I've been saying this for years). However, Barnes & Noble may consider their small bookstore on McDaniel's campus as their presence here in Westminster. We lost Locust Books and the bookstore at the Mall, so those factors could justify need for a Barnes & Noble. Trader Joe's would be great too. In fact, Trader Joe's affordability and the accessibility of that SuperFresh lot would make that venue for a great fit.

I would love to see a Hooter's or a Gentlemen's club or even a casino! These kind of place's would provide good paying jobs for women and of course men too.
newsjunkie February 07, 2012 at 10:51 PM
A Hooters now that's just what we need! Very classy. It would be fun to watch pro-business Commissioner Frazier take on that one.

I would like to see an all you eat eatery
Neil Ridgely February 08, 2012 at 01:46 AM
A combination abortion / methodone clinic!
Kym Byrnes (Editor) February 08, 2012 at 07:35 AM
Neil! This has been such a nice comment thread so far, lol. I know you want a disco skating rink with a karoake bar, you just won't admit it.
Neil Ridgely February 08, 2012 at 01:31 PM
Drat, I've been outed! It's a pretty big place, how about a lesbian - gay bar/ fair trade coffee shop/ organic, locally grown produce- farmers market?
Buck Harmon February 08, 2012 at 03:12 PM
I'd like to see a trade school, supported by funding to put people back to work...the antique mall sounds pretty good too...
WestMonster February 08, 2012 at 03:24 PM
Don't we have an antique mall that can't keep all it's spaces filled? I like to see antiques on Main St. I'm going back to the bowling alley idea. Check out Shady Grove 300 in Gaithersburg. Good family entertainment. The trade school is a decent idea, but I don't think it's likely. It's going to be retail/entertainment. Dave & Buster's is a nice suggestion. They might not like being right next to BWW though.
Familylawgirl February 08, 2012 at 05:07 PM
I like the bowling alley idea or a Chuck E Cheese/Dave & Busters type place. A Best Buy or HH Gregg would also be nice. Not a fan of Trader Joe's at all.
Lisa T February 08, 2012 at 11:33 PM
Trader Joe's is the first thing I thought of too. I do agree that Wegman's would be great but the space just wouldn't accommodate it. Anyone know of actual plans for the space or proposals that have been floated yet?
withavengeance February 09, 2012 at 05:28 PM
I'd REALLY like to see an inexpensive second run movie theater. This probably won't happen though, as Regal in the Town Mall fights every one that's ever been proposed. They like being the only 'game' in town. Wish they'd at least upgrade their seating which hasn't been done since Regal came to the Town Mall way back in the day.
WestMonster February 09, 2012 at 06:50 PM
EXCELLENT IDEA!
Jennifer Diefendorf April 14, 2012 at 09:17 PM
I heard a Trader Joes may come- this would be my first choice!
Lisa T April 16, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Isn't the latest that it's an Aldi's? I haven't been up there to see yet but my husband said he saw that's what's going in there...
Ed April 17, 2012 at 12:54 AM
According to the daily fish wrap one day last week, its going to be part Aldi and part PetCo.
Ed April 17, 2012 at 12:56 AM
Some of us of a certain age would insist that Cranberry/Town Mall didn't even exist "back in the day." :-)
John April 17, 2012 at 08:07 AM
An Amish Market return would be nice
Ed April 17, 2012 at 03:37 PM
Sorry John, leases are already signed for Aldo and PetCo. Besides, I think the operators of the Amish Market are content in Hunt Valley, better demographics and more customer traffic there, especially from the business park at lunch time.
Jenna Norvell August 06, 2012 at 01:45 PM
I really want a Trader Joe's!!
F B O September 27, 2012 at 02:07 PM
No, RJ, the reason for the closing <of all but 2 Superfresh's in Maryland> can actually be summed up by an old axiom: "the fish rots from the head first". Meaning bad top management begets a bad business
