HeadFirst Sports Injury and Concussion Care Hires Eric Hansen as Director of Sports Medicine


HeadFirst Sports Injury and Concussion Care, a program of Maryland-based Righttime Medical Care, has hired Eric Hansen, ATC/L, as Director of Sports Medicine.

 

Mr. Hansen’s extensive background as a certified athletic trainer makes him especially suited to integrating Righttime’s sports medicine initiatives. The HeadFirst program focuses on education, evaluation and treatment of head injury and concussion. He will be responsible for coordinating a seamless return to play by acting as a liaison between medical providers, athletic trainers, coaches and school counselors. Additionally, Mr. Hansen will coordinate HeadFirst’s community concussion educational workshops, serve as a resource for county parks and recreation departments, and oversee HeadFirst’s 24-hour hotline for athletic trainers and coaches.

Before joining HeadFirst, Mr. Hansen was director of sports medicine at Mount St. Mary’s University, supervising the health and safety of the school’s Division I athletic teams.

Mr. Hansen is a former vice-president of the Maryland Athletic Trainers Association, and holds a Master of Science degree from California University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science degree from Barry University.

 

HeadFirst Sports Injury and Concussion Care was founded by Dr. Robert G. Graw, Jr., M.D., chief executive officer of Righttime Medical Care, to provide post-injury medical evaluations for patients of all ages. HeadFirst consists of a medical team trained in the evaluation and management of mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI), working with a consortium of local specialists. HeadFirst has been providing complementary ImPACT baseline testing for sports teams and individuals since opening in 2011, and supports trainers and coaches with a community concussion awareness program. Righttime Medical Care operates ten urgent care centers located in Anne Arundel, Frederick, Howard and Montgomery counties.
