Volunteer – You Can Make a Difference

The Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The volunteer agency was chartered in 1946 as a humanitarian, non-profit organization with three primary missions -- Emergency Services, Cadet Programs and Aerospace Education.

Without volunteers, there would be no Civil Air Patrol. When you become a Civil Air Patrol volunteer, you join a family of citizens with a shared desire to give back to communities; helping others. Often in return, volunteers find fulfillment, satisfaction, a sense of belonging, and pride.

For youth ages 12 to 21, the Cadet Program offers leadership training, technical education, scholarships and career education

Adult membership is open to those 18 years old or older. Members can serve by:

  • Participating in search and rescue
  • Assisting local, state and federal agencies when disasters strike
  • Working with youth through the cadet program
  • Supporting CAP's communications and flying programs.

Cadet membership is open to youth ages 12 through 18. Cadet programs focus on leadership, aviation, aerospace, search and rescue, technology, honor guard, rappelling and pararescue courses. While cadets are not obligated to join the service when they graduate from school, each branch of the military offers advanced-promotion opportunities based on the amount of training a cadet has completed. Approximately 10% of the US Air Force Academy appointees are current or former CAP cadets. West Point and Annapolis admit approximately 5-6% current or former CAP cadets to their schools.
