Waste Not! Carroll Update

The mission of Waste Not! Carroll is to educate the residents of Carroll County about local efforts to reduce waste, save precious resources and ease the burden on our landfills.

So, the 60 day extension for public comment on the MDE permits for the Frederick County Memorial Incinerator is rapidly coming to a close.  If you haven't already submitted your thoughts, or if you have more to add, speak now or . . . you know the rest!

PLEASE WRITE!

Send in your comments on the incinerator permits to MDE. Even a short note is worthwhile.

MAY 20 IS THE DEADLINE FOR YOUR COMMENTS.

Go to this link for contact information to send in your comments, and the permit number you will need to reference:

MDE has extended the comment period for the three incinerator permits. They cited “significant public interest in this project” as an important reason for the extension. Therefore, you may still submit written comments to the Maryland Dept. of Environment until May 20, 2013 to the following. Please refer to Permit 11DP3749.

And once all the dust has settled from this current catastrophe, we will still have our annual recycling and composting volunteer project at the Common Ground on the Hill Annual Festival (http://www.commongroundonthehill.org/festival_poster_2013.html) on the weekend of July 13th and 14th at the Farm Museum.  Sally has a new on-line volunteer sign-up page posted, so please visit it soon and sign up for your choice slot(s).  As always, this is an excellent opportunity to help at a great local event and hear some of the best, most varied music around anywhere.  And this year, I understand there will be a new 'Wine Garden' available.  I may have to check out what they have 'growing'!

And our next regular WN!C monthly meeting is fast approaching, too!  It will be Wednesday, May 22nd, starting at 7pm in the Large Meeting Room of the Westminster Library.  It will likely include many of the usual suspects, as well as some new faces, and we will be discussing these topics, as well as the pending Request for Proposal (RFP) from Carroll County Government on how to run the Northern Landfill and our new Green Business Network project (www.planetcarroll.org) that is currently in the hands of a few select local businesses for their input.
