A Stone’s Throw: Gettysburg, PA.

This weekend marks the 148th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. It's a good time to get out and explore the history surrounding the historic town, just 40 minutes from Westminster.

It’s a sobering feeling to be standing on the very ground where tens of thousands of men lost their lives in what is known as the bloodiest battle in America--the Battle of Gettysburg.

The town of historic Gettysburg is made up of museums, hotels, and taverns, set in buildings which date back to Civil War times. Small store fronts along the main road display various blue and gray Civil War memorabilia.

Although the main attraction of Gettysburg remains the battlefield and the history surrounding it, there is much more to do in this quaint town.

Popular Gettysburg eateries include:

The Dobbin House Tavern:  This building dates back to 1776, making it the oldest standing structure in Gettysburg. Rev. Alexander Dobbin originally constructed the house to be used as a home for his family and a school.

The restaurant maintains the feeling of the 1700’s, as the decor remains in character of the original dwelling and the wait staff dress in authentic 18th century attire.  Both casual and formal dining are available.

Tommy’s Pizza: Right in the middle of town, Tommy’s serves up pizza and subs in a casual atmosphere.

O’Rorke’s Eatery & Spirits: Named after Patrick Henry O'Rorke, a Colonel of the 140th New York Infantry, this eatery serves soups, salads, and sandwiches with both an American and Irish flair.
